During my time as a volunteer in adult care in The Gambia, I supported elderly residents at their own homes in the Greater Banjul area. My responsibilities included assisting with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal support, and mobility, while also providing companionship through conversation and simple recreational activities.

I learned the importance of patience, dignity, and cultural sensitivity when caring for older adults. Many of the elderly had limited family support, so offering consistent presence and respectful attention made a meaningful difference to their wellbeing. This experience strengthened my communication skills, empathy, and ability to work calmly in a care environment.
